“I felt something was coming.” Passos, our bus driver said. He had been invited to come to the eye clinic to see the doctor and be fitted for glasses. As he waited to have his blood pressure evaluated a couple of our team members took the time to ask him if he knew what we were doing here in Rio. We told him that we were a medical, dental, and optical team. We were giving free care to the people. He had thought the people were paying. He was amazed and asked why. We shared that we were there to tell others about God’s love for the people because He had done so much for us. We shared the plan of salvation with Passos and when the time came to receive Christ he joyfully prayed. He was a changed man. There even seemed to be a physical difference in him. As we all embraced we told him he was now our brother and we would spend eternity with him in heaven, and we would not even need a bus to get around. He laughed out loud with us and we embraced again. He had noticed the joy of our group and remarked that he had known something was coming.
There are so many great things happening and so many coming to Christ. Denise said even through the greatest obstacles, crying babies, having to go get supplies, and so many distractions still she was able to see a woman pray to receive Christ. We have all felt that way. |

He carried her into the triage area in his arms. Josefa, the woman who was brought in was suffering from hypertension 246/146 and she was feeling faint. She had a dazed look on her face and was just overwhelmed. Raja, our triage nurse assessed Josefa’s health and felt strongly that she needed to rest in a quiet place for a short time.
As she rested Raja and her interpreter Miriam prayed for wisdom to know how to treat Josefa. Raja took care of Josefa’s medical needs, but she also felt led by the Holy Spirit to share several verses. As Raja and Miriam shared, Josefa’s family was by her side and were listening. Raja asked if Josefa would like to have the peace that Jesus brings. She declined the invitation. Raja inquired of Claudio, Josefa’s husband and Junior, her son and both wanted to accept Christ as Savior. Raja asked Josefa once again, and this time she broke down into tears and said, "I know I need Jesus." Raja led the family in the sinner’s prayer, and tonight we have another sister and two new brothers in Christ! |

"It is good to praise the Lord, to sing praises to your name, Most High." Psalm 92:1. This verse has been repeated twice in the last two days. The first time was when one of the patients at the leper colony requested our team member read it. The second time was today as the minister at the church we will serve with this week read it in worship. The verse was followed each day with our voices being lifted to our Creator. Though we speak different languages, we are one as we worship God.
The choir at FBC Centario blessed us by singing a portion of the Halleluiah Chorus today. Though they sang in Portuguese, the message was the same, "King of Kings, and Lord of Lord, forever and ever, Halleluiah, Halleluiah." Our American team took to our feet as we applauded the music, but even more so, the message. We, the church, both those in Brazil and those of us from the U.S. are one in our Lord Jesus. This week we will be given the opportunity to reveal to this community why a group of 31 Americans would come to share God’s love with poor people that can give very little in return. We are here because of Who we love and as an offering of sacrifice of worship to Him. We join our translators and the church family as they too offer themselves and their talents to God. |
