December 1, 2015: Ephesians 1:3-10

873fef93034f58ef6d2dd4a8353d5685 “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ  as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.”  Eph. 1:3-10

Did you see when God chose us?  As we celebrate Jesus’ birth this month it is important for us to start at the beginning and the beginning is before God even spoke the words “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Gen. 1:1  Before the foundation of the world was set in place God had already chosen us in Christ Jesus and given us every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.  WOW!!  That blows my mind.  God chose before setting the world in place to send His Son knowing that the imperfect people He would make would need a Savior.  He chose Christmas, the celebration of Jesus’ birth from the beginning and He chose to make us holy and blameless through the death and resurrection of His Son.  It was and is His will.  Jesus chose this path as well and through His gift to us we are given the gift of forgiveness of all our sins.  What rich grace is lavished on us.  The great gift of salvation allows us to come before God not as servants or even friends, but as children through His adopting us.  Today as you consider the Baby placed in a manger, take time to thank God for choosing you as well.  If you have never admitted you are a sinner, believed that Christ is God’s Son, our Savior and confessed your sin or wrong doings to Christ do that today and receive the gift of salvation from God.  It has already been bought and paid for.  The miracle of Christmas is that because of what Christ did those who choose Him will live eternally united with God.  Wow, what a gift!

  1. Lavish : giving or using a large amount of something

    : given in large amounts

: having a very rich and expensive quality

Friends, if you are discouraged or feeling the blues today, take a few moments to think about the wonderful gifts the Lord has lavished upon us according to the riches of his grace. These gifts include redemption, forgiveness of sins, love, peace, grace, mercy, all of the fruits of the Spirit, and the promise He will NEVER leave us or forsake us! He is with us ALWAYS, even unto the end of the world! Then at the end of the world, we will live with Him forever! Just know you are loved and you are not alone!

  2. I heard this song for the first time yesterday. Thank you, Page for posting it here
Lauren Daigle sings it beautifully. This says it all for me! What Amazing Love!

    Noel, Noel
Come and see what God has done
    Noel, Noel
    The story of amazing love
    The light of the world
    Given for us
    Noel

    Love incarnate, Love divine
Star and Angels gave the sign
Bow to babe on bended knee
    The Savior of humanity
Unto us a child is born
    He shall reign forevermore

Son of God and Son of Man
    There before the world began
Born to suffer, born to save
Born to raise us from the grave
    Christ the everlasting Lord
    He shall reign forevermore

  3. We have been given every single blessing that we need in this life. And in 2 Peter 1:3 we know that “His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness.” My heart breaks as I watch people shop for gifts that will soon be forgotten, gifts that are fun to buy but have no lasting worth, gifts that may fulfill a temporary need , but cannot fill the longing of a heart. I just want to give people the gift that will last for eternity, the gifts that we have in Christ that are listed in Eph. 1. I wish I could wrap up the gift of salvation and give it away but only God can give that gift, but we can sure be a great advertisement for it. My prayer for this season is that those gifts He has lavished upon me will pour out of my life, and draw others to Him.

    • Amen Renee. Oh how the Lord wants all of us to value the gift of salvation we have received and give it away to all who come near.
