Nehemiah 5-7: Are you a generous person? Do you feel like sometimes people just don’t appreciate what you do? I believe Nehemiah might have felt this way as well. He gave up a position at the king’s right hand to come back and rebuild the wall around Jerusalem. He paid for his own food, and provided for many others when the public officials were usually paid for their work and provided for. He did it because he knew how hard the people were working and did not want to put more pressure on them and yet they did not seem to care or appreciate it, but in the end Nehemiah had the right mindset.
Nehemiah 5:19 “Remember for my good, O my God, all that I have done for this people.”
Whether anyone else appreciates what you do, God sees and He knows what you do. When we give to others we are really giving to Him and doing it in obedience to Him. So instead of allowing feelings of hurt, anger or feeling taken for granted to take over, remember who you are really doing what you are doing for. He knows, He sees, and He will reward.
