Joshua 11, Isaiah 46-47, Matthew 27:1-23, Philippians 4:2-9, Psalm 7: I love the Old Testament. I love reading the Storie of people who faced overwhelming circumstances and saw God come through big. Joshua’s story today is one of those stories. I remind myself often that the things in this book are true and I can count on God just like these great warriors did. Then Isaiah 46 spoke powerfully to me.
46:8 “Remember this and stand firm,
recall it to mind, you transgressors,
9 remember the former things of old;
for I am God, and there is no other;
I am God, and there is none like me,
10 declaring the end from the beginning
and from ancient times things not yet done,
saying, ‘My counsel shall stand,
and I will accomplish all my purpose,’
11 calling a bird of prey from the east,
the man of my counsel from a far country.
I have spoken, and I will bring it to pass;
I have purposed, and I will do it.”
God is the same yesterday, today and forever. What He wills He will accomplish and man cannot thwart His plans. My job is to listen, to trust, and to obey. His plans aren’t always easy nor do they make human sense sometimes, but I look back and I see that God has often used things that did not make sense to do the impossible. I challenge each of us to trust and obey this One True God who can do the impossible in our lives as well.
