Genesis 41-43: Finally…. Have you ever been there. You have prayed for something, expected it, had your heart set on it and after a LONG time it finally happens. I can’t imagine how Joseph felt when the call finally came. As he shaved I am sure he and the Lord were having quite the conversation. One wrong word and he would end up back in the pit. I imagine he was begging God not to let him blow it and yet when we over hear the conversation with Pharaoh there seems to be such peace as Joseph listens to both of the dreams not jumping in to tell Pharaoh what he thinks but listening intently. When Pharaoh was complete Joseph doesn’t take any credit. He immediately gives God the credit even before he gives the interpretation. (good move!) Then Joseph proceeds to tell what God is placing on his heart as to why Pharaoh would have such a dream. Fat years…Famine years…. the need for a wise leader… As Pharaoh asked for input from his advisers I don’t believe there was any way that Joseph saw himself with the signet ring on his finger and leading the nation. Was he qualified? Could he do it? The answer was the same. He couldn’t but God could.
In the blink of an eye Joseph’s life changed even more and Pharaoh honored Joseph and his faith as he said.
Genesis 41:8 And Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find a man like this, in whom is the Spirit of God?” 39Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has shown you all this, there is none so discerning and wise as you are. 40You shall be over my house, and all my people shall order themselves as you command. Only as regards the throne will I be greater than you.”
Hollywood could not write a script this good! The one time slave, prisoner, reject from his brothers is now second in command in all of Egypt. His assignment, prepare for the famine to come. And prepare he did. His preparations would lead to his ultimate resolution with his family but his walk with God saved not just them but many in Egypt and the surrounding countries. God’s plans may not be our plans. The may take a LONG time to come to pass. (and I am not talking about 6 months to a year). Joseph had waited years for this to come to pass, yet God was in control every step of the way. Don’t give up my friend. God is still in the miracle making business. Hold on!
