Haste Makes Waste

Proverbs 21-24: Anybody out there have some projects that are just take time to complete and so you try to hurry through only to find because you are shortcutting you have messed it up?
Proverbs 21:5 “The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.”
My mom has always said, “haste makes waste.” When I have those projects I am running to complete and I mess something up I can hear her voice in my head lol. Yes mom, you are right in my haste I have gotten ahead of myself or left something out just to have to sit down long enough to take the stupid thing apart and do it again. lol Maybe you have been there…
I wonder if many of us don’t try the same thing in our spiritual lives. We speed read through our devotion passages for the day not allowing the words to penetrated our hearts and in our haste we miss the purpose we are reading for. Or maybe in relationships you do what you need to do, but you don’t see the one you are doing it for. Another opportunity is missed.
The writer gives us the key at the beginning of the verse, the diligent one. The one who is vigilant and enduring to get the things done they need to do but doing it focused on this project not running to the next or the next person. Attention is hard to give many things at once, so do well what you are doing so you can go to the next. Love the person in front of you well then you can go to the next. Listen to God speak then head out to your day. it is not just about checking the boxes, it is about doing what needs to be done with care.
